Skin cancers are also common cancers especially in tropical and sub-tropical regions. They are more commonly seen in fair skinned individuals, but can affect any person. Risk factors include excessive sun exposure, chemical usage and application, genetic predisposition. Most common location is on the face although axilla, groin are other common sites.
There are 3 main forms of skin cancer. The most common subtype is the basal cell carcinoma. The other two subtypes are the squamous cell carcinoma and the melanoma.
Treatment includes surgery as the mainstay of treatment. Other modalities are radiation, laser therapy. Chemotherapy is also used in advanced cases.
